February 26, 2008
CALL TO ORDER: Distributed to attendees: Sign-in sheet, Finance Report, January Minutes
JANUARY MINUTES: Minutes approved without revision.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Brenda Bayne – Profit and Loss statement approved without revision. Taxes are done – EARLY! Even though we’re non-profit we must do them anyway.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Kim Slade – OMEA Festival on February 2 was deemed a huge success; a judge in particular took the time to write and let us know how exceptionally well the day went. Keep in mind the nominating committee is working on developing the slate for next year. If you’re a current officer, please let us know your intentions. If you’re interested in becoming an officer, please nominate yourself! Senior guard will be performing the show immediately after the meeting.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Mr. Schramek – Contest performance times for Large Group on March 7th at Harrison High School. The Symphonic Band performs at 5:30 pm and Concert Band performs at 8:15pm. The bad news is it’s far away – the good news is it’s probably the best auditorium in the tri-state area. We’ve been fighting the weather with rehearsals, but we’re trying to get the kids prepared. Concert Band chaperones are needed – contact Mrs. Wandstrat if available. Directors have heard just glowing comments about the OMEA event – one of the best in recent history. Many thanks to the parents and students who volunteered. On April 1st we’ll have a meeting with 8th graders explaining Marching Band and fee structures, etc starting at 6:30 pm. April 5th is Jr Hi Solo/Ensemble contest at Madeira High School. Four honor band members selected for Honors Symphony March 15th at Princeton. 8th grade concert is Tuesday, March 18th, at 7:00 pm.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Ways & Means: Kim Haas – Mulch sale’s coming up. Order form to be available on Boosters website soon! Many volunteers are needed and student signup coordination is necessary to cover the full day. 5000 bags of mulch sold in 2007. Four hour shifts will be scheduled for a student to earn their full fair share. April 26 is delivery day. Lunch will be provided to the workers by the Boosters.
OMEA: Lisa Cieslewicz – February 2nd’s OMEA turned out fantastic, but we couldn’t have done it without the help of the 65 adults and 115 students who volunteered. Many thanks, especially to Ang Kovatch and Joe Haas as they put in many long hours in preparation for the event. We made $980 in concession sales for the day. Mr. Brown would like to do this again next year and we’ll be better prepared based upon our experiences from this year. If a parent is interested is getting more involved with this in 2009, contact Lisa for details.

Bev Pineault is working on concessions. Pork cookers needed (pork provided). Basket donations can be brought in at any time and locked up for Saturday. Food donations of brownies, rice krispie treats, etc may be brought in to the Band room. Soda and water donations are needed, too!

Old Business/Unfinished Business: Update on Senior hours given. A small group of parents met with Dr. Bauer to discuss the possibility of having selected band events “pre-approved” for community service hours. The meeting went very well and a listing of these annual events is being developed to be shared with Dr. Bauer for consideration in 2008-2009 school year. Additionally, Dr. Bauer will be speaking with senior advisors regarding the applicability of service hours being applied for the July 13-14, 2007 “Midsummer in the Meadows” event – even though it did not receive pre-approval review prior to the event. It was suggested that next year’s Senior Parent work with the directors as a liaison to the Boosters and the community service hours requirements.
New Business: Bev Pineault has asked that another parent pick up responsibility for the “Buy it in Milford” books. The books were $20 and $8 went back to fair share acct. A presale is available giving special coupons if books are presold. Broadcast email will be sent to see if we can recruit a new parent to take on this historically successful fund raiser.
