Milford Band Booster Minutes
September 25, 2007
CALL TO ORDER: Distributed to attendees: Sign-in sheet, Finance Report, August Minutes
AUGUST MINUTES: Minutes approved without revision
TREASURER’S REPORT: Brenda Bayne – Finance Report approved without revision. The $4628.08 remains in the capital campaign fund AFTER the parkas have now been paid for as well as the racks. We’ve been busy in the BOA columns. Discussion of how additional monies will be spent.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Mike Carroll and Kim Slade – A heartfelt thanks to all who volunteered in so many ways at our competitions. We’re all just so thankful for all of the parents that are putting in the time and energy.
We have a guest here tonight to speak to us about the bond issue. Jay Patterson (former third trombone) is a volunteer coordinator for the Bond Issue. Primarily the bond issue is for expansion and safety improvements for the high school. The bond is for 2.05 mils but increases won’t be seen because we have 2.05 coming off of the 2001 levy. If the Bond passes, school will remain in session during the construction. The timeline puts construction starting in 2009. There would also be a new 9th Grade Wing for the 9th Grade Community (available to our 6th graders and below now). Community meetings are being held to gather input – Dr. Farrell has been coordinating these to give open input to the district.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Mr. Brown reported that they’re working on the logistics for this weekend. Loveland – arrive 2:30 pm for rehearsal… loading and eating at 5:30 departing at 6:30. Performing at 8:45. Returning around 11:00 pm. Friday game will be visited by local station at 5:00 pm, a smaller Pep Band to play at 5:00, full pep band at 6:00 and all others at 6:45. Greg Moore our Disney guy contacted us about a pre-Disney trip the only time he could meet with us is Tuesday, Nov 13. He will send all info to us ahead of meeting. Dr. Bauer sends his apologies for not being here tonight. Thanks to everybody for a great weekend and helping us get through the heat on Saturday at Miami. The Band played two really good performances – it was a huge accomplishment to make those finals. Mr Brown has received many compliments on our kids – very nice, very polite. The BOA chief judge approached Mr. Brown and told him “your band gets better every year.” We’re moving forward, adding extras to the show and making some changes, but it’s pretty much out there – putting us ahead of the ballgame. Mr. Brown said everyone should be flattered by the standing ovation that followed our Finals performance. It really means a lot when other bands and their families stand and cheer for us.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Ways & Means: Kim Haas - $226 Max & Erma fundraiser – May do it again on MLK day. Fruit Sale packets will be sent home on October 15. Longaberger products are available to view at tonight’s meeting. Proceeds of your sales (20%) will go to your Fair Share. We also sell cheesecakes and poinsettias. All Fair Share!
Capital Campaign: Lisa Cieslewicz – We’re still trying to raise more money for third trailer. Discussion regarding our needs and a possible purchase of a used trailer. A motion was made and seconded to find a price on a third trailer – including accessories. Unanimously approved.
SCRIP, Krogers, Meijers, Dominos, Panera: Joe Haas – No update. Go online to order!
Delegate at Large: Raylene Gerber – Covered with the info from Jay. Minutes available for review.
Chaperones: Bev Pineault – Thank you for all of the help chaperoning.
Equipment: Bob Slade – The Queen is finished! And it’s believed to be one of the biggest props we’ve had so far. Classy construction and it fits into the program beautifully. Many thanks to Tim, Joe, Mike, and Bob’s Mom for putting her together. Many thanks to the pit crew for their flexibility and willingness to do whatever I asked them to do.
Drumline: Ann Shook – We still need volunteers for Steamin Joe’s and spirit booth. We have flocked four houses so far.
Guard: Connie Duguid – They are working on the last set of flags (5th set) monochromatic coloring to match the queen.
Membership: Julia Foster – no report
Marching Band Uniforms: Kathy Christopher – Thanks to everyone that’s helping us get those uniforms washed for Friday and forward. Hem adjustments continue as the kids grow. Everything’s going well.
Senior Committee: Susan Sferra – They’re in the process of designing and ordering their shirts for Senior night.
BOA: Tim Gerber – Thanks to everyone for the help on Saturday. Now it’s on to St Louis! There’s been discussion of one or two nights and we’re to a point where we can’t get a commitment for a second night. Tentative itinerary Friday – leave about 8:00 am; lunch at McDonalds in Illinois at 11:00 CST; 1:00 arrive at the hotel (Crowne Plaza) email out with details for parents who want to stay at the hotel. We’ve been given a rate of $119/night for BOA Friends and Family. Other hotels are closer, but we’re at the Crowne Plaza.
We’ll have an early dinner at 4:00 pm at the Old Spaghetti Factory. We’re the last band to perform on Friday - could be as late as 8:30 pm. Saturday 8:00 am breakfast buffet at the hotel. 10 – 11:30 Archway museum and ride to the top of the arch. We have tickets with set time to go up in the arch. The Arch is right behind the hotel. After that, it’s up in the air. We’d like a lunch/shopping period but we have to check bus hours to see if that can work. Awards for prelims are at 4:00pm and we’ll leave at about midnight. They could perform a second time on Saturday, but if we make it or not, we’re going to stay for the finals. Requests for pit crew and chaperone rooms are coming in. Only three buses making the trip, so no extra bus seats are available.
Hospitality/Refreshments: Robyn Carroll – We’re set with cookies – thank you to everybody for bringing them in.
Publicity: Gary Presley – New press releases are due out – the flock story and another write up about the new parkas and an article about the capital campaign.
Old Business/Unfinished Business: Lisa Cieslewicz and Ang Kovatch have answered the call for the contest meals – thank you for stepping up to the plate. Parking lot/safety issues are working better now with the new barricades.
New Business: Athletic Ice Maker – Mark Trout, AD, worked out the lanyards and colored tickets to identify workers for free entry in the venue. Old ice machine, asked that we help the athletic department to financially support the ice machine (repair or possible purchase). Discussed and put on hold for further investigation – to include maybe Home City providing ice for us.
