Milford Band Booster Minutes

 August 28, 2007

CALL TO ORDER:  Distributed to attendees:  Sign-in sheet, Finance Report, June Minutes

JUNE MINUTES:  Minutes approved without revision.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Brenda Bayne – Finance Report approved without revision.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Mike Carroll and Kim Slade – Wonderful band camp!  Thanks to all of the parents who chaperoned, fed and bandaged our children. Thanks, too, to all of those who have volunteered to sew flags or uniforms. The parkas are here and were modeled at the Parent Show.

DIRECTOR’S REPORTS:  Mr. Brown – Thank everyone for their help in getting us through Camp.  The chaperones and the kids did a great job getting us through the extremely hot weather.  Many thanks to the cooks and the tailors, too!  September 10th High School is having an all-school extravaganza from 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the Gym.  The Boosters are invited to participate.    The Holiday Parade is the night before we leave for the Disney trip (November 15).  However, we would have a Disney rehearsal scheduled for that night anyway so we’ll go ahead and perform in the parade as our dress rehearsal.  The only thing we’ll need to discuss is the logistics of the uniforms, equipment, and what’s packed that night.  We are proud to have two students that were selected for All-State Band that will perform here in Cincinnati in late January.  Congratulations to Erin Grace and Andrew Dibenedetto.  We have received our performance time for the BOA Regional at Miami University on 9/22.  The itinerary has been posted online under the Marching Band Contest schedule.

Mr. Schrameck – The directors have just been buried with the beginning of school, so give us a little time before we begin looking at itineraries.  Friday’s pep band will be a smaller band, arriving here at 5:45, taking about 35 kids to fit in one bus.  Future games can be more members.  Looking at the junior high bands, the best news is the 8th grade with 84 students, so we’ll have a huge freshman class next year.  Our 7th grade only has 41 students.  6th grade band starts next week.

Mrs. Everett – I’m very impressed with the students and the parent support!  Thanks for everything I’ve seen you do for us.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Ways & Means:  Kim HaasSeptember 10 at Max & Erma’s with 20% of your bill returning back to the Boosters.  They’ll take photocopies of the fundraising card, but you need something before you get on the grounds.  Max & Erma’s will contribute a bonus of $100 as soon as $100 is made!  We need to sell 150 Buddy Cards by August 31 when the treasurer will have to pay for them.  Due to the timing of the Disney trip, the fruit sale is being moved up starting at the end of October and running until we leave for Disney. Extra show shirts $10 with Friday deadline.  Laser tag made about $700 and we had a lot of fun!  We received great compliments on our kids from the owners.

Capital Campaign:  Lisa Cieslewicz is working on a new letter to “drum” up money for a third trailer – hope to mail within the next 2 weeks.

SCRIP, Krogers, Meijers, Dominos, Panera:  Joe Haas – no report

Delegate at Large:  Raylene Gerber – July/August notes from BOE meeting available for review.

Chaperones: Teresa Wandstrat – We had over 30 volunteers chaperone Band Camp THANK YOU!!

Equipment:  Bob Slade – Both trailers are ready and will travel to all games and competitions.  We have approximately 35 volunteers for pit crew – breaking down into smaller groups as needed.  Four additional barricades are being made to supplement the eight from last year.  Sponsor name recognition still underway (replacing the old with the new sponsors).

Drumline: Ann Shook – We still need help working the Spirit Booth (especially on Seniors Night).  We are still investigating the flocking and hope to begin next week.  We have 100 Pink Flamingoes in the loft right now.  Promote flocking during the High School Extravaganza.

Guard: Connie Duguid – Four flags needed for the show – 2 sets completely done!  We should have all four sets for the first show.  Altering the guard uniforms will need more sewers, so please contact Connie if you can help.

Membership: Julia Foster has buttons for all that have joined the Boosters!

Marching Band Uniforms:  Kathy Christopher – We have a uniform for each marcher!  With lots of help, they’ve been altered, although some uniform tasks are still to be completed.  We will also need to get racks for the new parkas and a place to store those coats.  A motion was made and seconded to purchase racks for the new parkas.  Field Commanders costumes have been selected and should be ready soon.

Senior Committee:  Susan Sferra – no report

BOA:  Tim Gerber – September 22 (Miami) 10:30 prelims begin, we play at 3:00 pm.  Finals announced at 4:45.  Bands selected as Finalists will perform from 7:45 – 10:15 with final awards at 10:30.  We’ll be getting home about 1:30-ish.  All in one day – school bus transportation – Yeager Stadium.

BOA Super Regional – October 19 & 20 – Edward Jones Dome in St Louis.  We’ll be staying at the Crown Plaza on North 4th street – about a 10 minute walk from the dome.  We’ll have 3 large tour buses leaving early on Friday, with a performance in the evening.  Saturday night hope to perform at finals – leaving about midnight, getting home about 8:30 am on Sunday.  Drury Inn is right by the dome and Hampton Inn, too – very nice and close.

Hospitality/Refreshments: Robyn Carroll  - Thanks to everyone that helped feed the directors during camp.  Thanks, too, for providing cookies for the home games!

Publicity: Gary Presley – We’ve had a lot of great press in the Advertiser with the Jazz night and the Band Camp.  Thanks to Gary for pulling this off for us!

Old Business/Unfinished Business:  We’ve been advertising for contest meals, but we could still use about 6-8 more people to volunteer for this.  Contact Kim Slade to volunteer.  There was a concern raised with the parking lot rehearsal space and the safety of the kids.  The directors and Dr Bauer will consider this safety issue further.

New Business: Motion made and seconded to have a sponsor sign created for Water Works as a thank you for their support with our various fundraisers.  Unanimously approved by those in attendance.

Fund Raiser – The Fruit/Cheesecake/Poinsettias sale starting in October.  Terry Magliano has offered to add selected Longaberger products to run concurrently with the fruit sale.  This would be Fair Share and the group voted to approve the sale.

Channel 12 Band of the Week nomination submitted by Lisa Cieslewicz.
