CALL TO ORDER: Sign in sheet
FEBRUARY MINUTES: Approved without revisions.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Approved without revisions. 2007-08 fees will be a total of $600 per student (includes $250 student participation fee).
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: We will open our meeting tonight with a special guest, Greg Horton, the store manager of the Milford Wal-Mart. We are very honored that Wal-Mart recognized Milford Band during their Grand Opening Festivities and awarded us with a $4000 donation! Thank you, Greg, for your support – what an awesome kick off for our Capital Fundraising Campaign!
A big thank you to everyone that helped to make our Winter Show a success! We couldn’t have done it without the large group of adult and student volunteers! Cathy Evans did an awesome job coordinating everything – thank you for the many man hours you put into this fundraiser!
DIRECTORS’ REPORTS:
Mr. Brown – At the OMEA Festival on March 16, both Concert and Symphonic Bands received Superior ratings. The kids played great and the judges were very complimentary. Winter Guard and Winter Drumline championships are this weekend. The Guard will be at Ryle High School and the Drumline will be at Centerville. Itineraries and directions are now available on the Boosters website. Both groups are having successful seasons. Winter Guard season ends this weekend and hopefully will be bringing home a medal! Our Junior Guard, too, have had a great season, playing to very appreciative crowds.
Mr. Schrameck – Junior High Band is doing very well. Most of the 8th graders are planning on continuing on to Concert Band next year. 7th grade band is also doing well. March 26th was the first day of “Exploratory Instrumental Music”. We can’t call it 6th grade band this year, but we’ll be able to next year. Mr. Schrameck requested $110 to pay for the entry fees for the Junior High Concert contest and the requested was approved by the members in attendance.
Ms. Towner – Concert Band Contest was awesome! Thanks to all parents who chaperoned the groups as well as attended the event.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Ways and Means:
Breadsmith Sale -Susan Sferra – Roughly $2900 earned towards Fair Share – really pleased! Also, Joel Weggener from Breadsmiths expressed thanks for having the privilege of helping the Boosters in this past year and hopes to continue the relationship next year.
Mulch Sale – Jenna Atkinson – The sale still going on but ending on April 5th. Parent volunteers are needed on Delivery Day (April 28) so please contact Patti or Jenna if you would be able to work a couple of hours. We especially need trucks, trailers, and bodies to get the work done.
Buy It In Milford Books – Bev Pineault – The sale begins on April 2 with flyers being sent from school. Presale will run through April 15 which will give you an extra discount card if you order and pay for them early. Books are $20 and kids get $8 for each sold. Pickup will be April 18/19 in the Band Room.
Yards Signs/Alumni Donations – Lisa Hilderbrand
Grants and MBB Capital Campaign – Lisa Cieslewicz – Last week we sent out 295 letters seeking corporate partnerships and donations. The Enquirer ran a great story on our band last week, explaining some of the financial hardships we’re facing, and folks just started sending money to us – former Milford parents, members of other school districts and bands making donations, donations in memory of friends and relatives. Our initial goal is $50K – to cover new raincoats, instruments and repairs. A lot of work has been done behind the scenes – lots of hands involved. Thank you very much for all that have been a part of this.
SCRIP, KROGERS, MEIJERS, DOMINOS, PANERA: Joe and Kim Haas – Disney’s on the Scrips form! Meijer card holders are being asked to reregister at meijer.com/mcrmember. The Booster’s Organizational Number is 501169. Unlike Kroger card purchases that go towards Fair Share, money collected through the Meijer’s Community Rewards program goes into the general fund for Boosters.
DELEGATE AT LARGE: Teresa Essex
CHAPERONES: Teresa Wandstrat – Special thank you to those who jumped in to help at OMEA.
EQUIPMENT: Bob Slade – The timpani carts have been made and used already! We’re looking for new pit crew members for Marching Band season, and we’d love to have new 8th grade parents to help us in the fall. More information will be available closer to the season, but if you’re interested let Bob know!
DRUMLINE: Cathy Evans – Thanks to everyone who helped us pull off the show – especially Patti for all of her help with food. We had over 60 adult volunteers that worked the show for us. We lost count after a while of the number of students who volunteered. We will need help again next year. Congratulations to the Drumline that scored a 86.1 at Saturday’s Drumline Show – giving us a 2nd place finish! Drumline will head to Centerville for the MEPA Circuit Finals on Saturday, performing at 4:32pm. We’d love to have you join us in the cheering section. Please come out. WGI Finals are April 19 – 21. We perform on Thursday, April 19th in the evening, and hope we go to semis and finals after that.
GUARD: Amy Bain – Wow! We are ranked first in the Tri-State area! We are performing at Ryle High School this Saturday and both Junior and Senior Guard will perform. Hope you can come see us! Amy and her group of volunteers have done an absolutely wonderful job sewing flags throughout the season. In addition to making some of the most beautiful flags seen at our contests, the work done by her small group of volunteers saves us LOTS of money.
MEMBERSHIP: Julia Foster – Membership form in packet available tonight. Remember, if you join this spring, you don’t have to join this summer when the big packet comes out.
MARCHING UNIFORMS - Kathy Christopher – A note to 8th grade parents, you’ll need shoes. Remember that our old marching uniforms are for sale for $25.00. They make great keepsakes and fun Halloween costumes!
CONCERT UNIFORMS – Sue Hayes – We will need people to volunteer to launder the concert uniforms after Commencement. More details will be available closer to the date.
SENIOR COMMITTEE: Ramona Fisch – Plans are in place for the Senior trip to Cedar Point. Right now, the fee is estimated to be $125 (based on all 31 seniors going on the trip) A Senior Meeting will be held on April 17th at 7:00 pm to make plans for the Banquet to be held on May 22.
BOA: Tim Gerber – Plans are being made for two major events coming up. The BOA Regional to be held at Miami University (Oxford) on September 22. Plus the BOA Super Regional which will be held between October 19th and 21st 1 in St Louis. Thanks to some super negotiations with Lakefront Lines, we’ll be saving roughly $2500 over last year’s bus provider.
HOSPITALITY/REFRESHMENTS: Robyn Carroll and Cindy Bachman – Come out and work the mulch sale because we need you!
PUBLICITY: Sue Thiele
The Advertiser printed a nice announcement for our Winter Show – thank you Sue!
Lisa arranged an interview with Mr. Brown and Steve Howes with the Enquirer. It ran in the Sunday, Mar 17th newspaper with some awesome pictures and is a great advertisement for our Capital Fundraising Campaign. Also, we had a picture from the Winter Show in the Hometown section the previous Saturday with more pictures online. We are thrilled with the media coverage we have received – thank you, Lisa, for stepping in to help while Sue has been busy providing care for a seriously ill family member.
Sue will see about putting a plug in the paper promoting the Mulch Sale.
OLD BUSINESS/UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Connie Duguid and Kathy Walker have graciously offered to coordinate the food for the spring banquet. Contact one of these ladies if you’re interested in helping out.
NEW BUSINESS: Disney trip for 2007 – The Marching Band will participate in Disney’s “Magic Music Days” and march at the Magic Kingdom in the “Dreams Do Come True Parade.” The trip will begin after school on Friday, November 16th and the students will return to the High School on Wednesday, November 21st. Please note that this is a change from our earlier planning, based upon changes to the Academic Calendar for 2007-2008. The cost per student is anticipated to be $689 – covering transportation, lodging, all meals, and entrance into the Disney parks. A $50 deposit will be due by May 1st from all students choosing to join us for the trip. (Participation is the trip is not mandatory, but a lot of fun.) The Directors have an information handout from New Horizons tour if you were unable to attend the Boosters meeting.
Separation of our fund raising efforts with Miami Glen – We have not been comfortable that the relationship between Miami Glen and the Band is in our best interests. They have represented us in a couple occasions causing confusion in the community and with some of our donors. Steve contacted Bill Knepp by phone and we followed it up with a letter stating that while we are very appreciative of the support they have given us, we want a clear separation between our fund raising efforts and those of Miami Glen and reminding Bill he is not authorized to represent the Band Boosters in any fashion.
Participation Fee – Mr. Brown, Patti, and Steve have been working closely with the Board Office and they have been wonderful – working with us to the best of their ability. Mr. Frye worked hard to keep the participation fee to $250 (we were concerned it would go to $300). Patti went line-by-line with Mr. Frye over our budget – very positive communication between the Board Office and our Boosters.
