MILFORD BAND BOOSTER MEETING AGENDA
FEBRUARY 27, 2007
CALL TO ORDER: Sign in sheet
JANUARY MINUTES: Approved without correction
TREASURER’S REPORT: Approved without correction
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: The students did a great job at Solo and Ensemble on January 27th at Princeton High School. The students are currently working on music for the March Winds Concert and OMEA Competition to be held on March 16th. Additional volunteers are needed for the Winter Show, scheduled for March 10th. Contact Cathy Evans if you can work any or all of the day.
DIRECTORS’ REPORTS:
Mr. Brown – The two high school bands will compete at the OMEA Competition to be held on March 16th. The Symphonic Band will perform at 5:30 and the Concert Band will perform at 6:50. The bands will travel to Winton Woods High School on 5 buses so 10-15 chaperones will be needed. Itinerary will be distributed soon. There will be a stage performance and a sight reading competition. Please join us for the stage performance portion. (Guests are not permitted to watch sight reading portion.) The kids are working very hard to prepare for this important competition. The March Winds Concert will be Tuesday, March 13th at 7:00 pm (no chaperones needed). Donations will be collected at the event. Extra rehearsals are being scheduled to help the kids prepare. Be sure your child attends these mandatory rehearsals.
Mr. Brown met with Mr. Frye about next year, and met with Seniors this afternoon. We will be able to start 6th grade band again next year!!! We’ll also be able to begin working with this year’s sixth graders in the next month or so to prepare them for next year. And, WE GET TO KEEP ALL THREE BAND DIRECTORS!!! YEAH!!! Funding is still a concern, things need to be decided at the Board level, but Mr. Frye said that we will continue to have our “life support budget” that has been in place this year. We’re still talking about a major loss ($60-70K), but the program can continue and we can still give the kids a quality program. It’s not going to be easy, but we will continue. Mr. Brown thanks all of the Boosters for their support of the program; he believes it’s obvious to the Board that we’re a committed group of parents.
Marching Band plans for next year have been tentatively made. Difficult decisions based upon where we are financially, but still working towards a great experience for the kids. We will still go to Disney in the Spring of 2008 and the seniors will still get to go to Cedar Point in May, 2008. These travel experiences are strictly voluntary. We will not be going to Grand Nationals in November, 2007, due to scheduling. Finals will be held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, which is 3 weeks after the last football game – too late. We’re going to start competing earlier in the season and we’ll be doing more local competitions:
Tentative schedule - September 15 Western Brown or Campbell County
September 22 BOA Regional at Miami University
September 29 Loveland or Lloyd
October 13 Colerain
October 19 & 20 is a Super Regional two-day event to be held in St. Louis. Roughly 45 bands will be competing with 15 selected to perform in Finals. Our final competition will be Mid States on November 3, scheduled to be at Kings High School.
We hope to be able to return to Grand Nationals in 2008 and perform in the new Dome! Also, we’ll be thinking about going to Phoenix over the New Year holiday in 2009 to participate in the Fiesta Bowl Parade and Competition.
Mr. Schrameck – Thrilled to get the 6th grade band going again. Our # 1 objective for 6th grade band will be to get their skills caught up. May limit the 7th grade concert performances somewhat to allow time to learn to play – not perform. Jr High concert will be March 20th with 7th and 8th grade bands performing. (No Jazz band performance at this concert but rather at the May concert.) 7th grade band is still huge – roughly 100 students. There will be 8th grade parents meeting immediately preceding our next Boosters meeting on March 27th.
Special thanks to Dr. Bauer for his support in re-establishing the 6th grade band.

Steve Howes and Mr. Brown will be interviewed by the Enquirer March 9th to promote the capital campaign. The Enquirer has also committed to cover our Winter Show on March 10th!
SCRIP, KROGERS, MEIJERS, DOMINOS, PANERA: Kim Haas – Nothing new with Scrips. We’re still waiting on the check from Texas Roadhouse. Although the exact amount earned is unknown, it was in the neighborhood of $120-$135. The Max & Erma’s event was more successful and we will be receiving a check for $342.21 in the next 2 weeks! They say we had a great turn out and have invited us to participate again if people are interested or willing. We made pretty much money for just eating! (and not washing cars or bagging groceries).
DELEGATE AT LARGE: Teresa Essex – May be old news now, but the secondary grades are to expect the most cuts – primary has already been cut. We like the new news better!
CHAPERONES: Teresa Wandstrat and Kim Haas – About a dozen chaperones will be needed for the OMEA Competition on March 16th. Contact Teresa or Kim if you can help!
EQUIPMENT: Bob Slade – Winter Drumline – Replaced a broken axle on one of the speaker carts.
DRUMLINE: Cathy Evans – Drumline will be quite busy this weekend with two competitions on Saturday, March 3. If we make finals, we’ll be heading back on Sunday to Kettering. The uniforms are in and altered. The final show is on the floor. We really need more adult volunteers to work some or all of the Winter show on Saturday, March 10th!!! Crock pots needed, too! Contact Patti if you have one we can use.
GUARD: Congratulations to our Jr High Winter Guard who have recently competed for the first time this year. The high school show is really neat, great costumes, led by great instructors. Last minute costumes fell through, so Drew pulled out some old uniforms, doctored them up and they look really cool! Free parent show on March 1st at 7:30 pm!
MEMBERSHIP: Julia Foster – We still have some!
MARCHING UNIFORMS - Kathy Christopher – The old uniforms will be sold at the Winter Show for $25.00. They’d make great Halloween costumes!!!
CONCERT UNIFORMS – Sue Hayes – Everything’s all ready for the upcoming performances.
SENIOR COMMITTEE: Ramona Fisch – Working on the Cedar Point Senior Trip – getting prices and preparing letter that will be mailed home soon. The cost of the trip is still to be determined, but we’re anticipating roughly the same cost as 2006 which was $120.
BOA: Tim Gerber – St Louis contract being sent! Raylene reports Tim is reviewing bus options for the best prices.
HOSPITALITY/REFRESHMENTS: Robyn Carroll and Cindy Bachman – Nothing needed until Mulch Sale.
PUBLICITY: Sue Thiele – No report
OLD BUSINESS/UNFINISHED BUSINESS: No old business.
NEW BUSINESS: Next month we present a list of volunteers interested in running for office next year. Anyone interested in running for an office, please contact Patti or Steve. Spring banquet coming up May 22 and a volunteer coordinator is needed. It would be best to get an underclass parent to head up these efforts so that the senior parents could attend without working the event.
