Milford Band Booster Minutes September 26, 2006
CALL TO ORDER: Sign in sheet.
AUGUST MINUTES: Approved with no revisions.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Brenda Bayne reported on several items including some fund raising efforts. In the last 5 months, Milford band has earned $455 at Meijer’s through their community rewards program. Brenda encouraged anyone that shops at Meijer, to stop by the service desk and apply for a Community Rewards card. 501169 is the Milford High School Band community rewards number. Proceeds from alumni donations, business donations, car washes, Dominos & Buddy Cards, Yard Signs, plus a variety of other fund raising efforts brings the total fund raising to $15, 301.69 to date. Youngstown expenses are noted on report. Report approved with no revisions.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Joel Wegener, ButterBraid Frozen Pastry Dough shared samples of their product. ButterBraids are sold for $9.00 each and the fairshare profit for the students would be $4.00 each. We would like to sell these delicious treats along with our Fruit Sale in November/December. Patti and Steve want to thank all of the parents that have volunteered for the past three football games in a variety of capacities. We greatly appreciate the donation of your time and your willingness to stand out in the rain! Unfortunately, our West Clermont show was cancelled due to the field not being usable. Although the competition was moved indoors, it was decided to not pay the expense of school buses to travel to Amelia and perform in the auditorium. Special thanks to Chipotle for their special assistance and willingness to provide burritos for our members. Although the contest was cancelled, we hope to serve burritos at another competition in October. We are hoping to schedule a replacement show on October 21 (Mason Invitational). Congratulations to Eric Cieslewicz for being selected to participate in the Cincinnati Youth Symphony Orchestra.
DIRECTOR’S REPORTS: Mrs. Towner – Itinerary for this weekend’s regional competition in Youngstown is available in Band Room and on website. Mrs. Towner distributed a report of the consequences should the November levy fail or pass. If the levy fails, the cuts can only be described as cataclysmic. Please remember to vote for this very important school levy on November 7th.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Ways & Means – Susan Sferra . Our website is up and running with our supporter information – great job Rocky!!! The artwork for the trailer is complete and Steve has adhered it to plexiglass. The artwork will be mounted in time for Youngstown. We received $1000 from Wal-Mart Stores, $300 from Nancy Compton (an aunt that lives in Florida), $300 Pro-Mach, $500 Potterhill Homes, $400 water distribution from Walk-Aa-Thon in Morrow, $360 from Cici’s Pizza. $500 check from GFS (Gordan Food Service) is in the mail! Yard Signs agonizingly slow – BUY SOME MORE!!! $505 in alumni donations.
Grant applications: Lisa Cieslewicz has kicked off an initiative to locate area givers to raise $20K to purchase new raincoats for the band. We have learned that our existing parkas are roughly 26 years old (kind of explains the smell they have). Also, Mr. Brown and Lisa are investigating several grants that could hopefully help us towards purchasing some big ticket items such as new instruments.
SCRIP, Krogers, Meijers, Dominos, Panera – Joe & Kim Haas – Kim still has some unclaimed spirit wear, scrips, and Buddy cards for pickup. Please call her if you think you’re missing something. Also, mark your calendar for the Sunday before Thanksgiving as the Band will be bagging groceries at Biggs Eastgate as a post-marching band fund-raiser.
Delegate at Large: Theresa Essex reported that the Board of Education has approved our trip to Indy for Grand Nationals with Boosters paying all expenses for the trip. She also asks Boosters to vote on November 7th and cautions that if the levy fails the cuts will be very deep.
Chaperones: Theresa Wandstrat – Getting ready to report 4:45 am on Saturday. Contests are booked and looking really good!
Equipment: Bob Slade – Reworked the 5 octave to make it easier to push. Sound cart rearranged on Saturday, making it easier to get on/off field. Barricades made and are ready to go. A big thank you to Mike Carroll for making the frames and Wendy Lambing and Grandma Carol for sewing the covers. Props and flags are pretty much done. Pit crew assigned for Youngstown. Milford Transportation Dept will be doing maintenance on the trailers before we leave for Youngstown; they’ll be good to go by Friday. See Bob if you ordered a pit shirt and haven’t picked it up yet.
Drumline: Cathy Evans - Anyone who has a senior that helped us at Miami in the Meadows this summer, Cathy can sign for their senior hours. If all 20 hours are accumulated before January, the senior will not have to take the Government semester exam – they’ll be exempt. Section shirts and jackets are being ordered. Although they are beautiful, well made jackets, they are not mandatory.
Guard: Amy Bain – Flags are now all done! YEAH!!!! Way to go Flag Moms!!! This saves us a huge amount of money – thousands of dollars.
Membership: Julia Foster – About half of the guard pictures have been taken. The rest should be taken the next time they dress (but not at Youngstown). All buttons have been distributed directly to parents or via the section leaders to the students.
Senior Committee: Ramona Fisch – no report
BOA: Tim Gerber – Youngstown’s all set! Report time 4:45 am, sharp. A phone tree will be started if we don’t make finals and will arrive home early. Indy is getting finalized as we meet. Pyramid Holiday Inn North in Indy – has Holidome – great fun! Perform on Thursday, find out if we made Semi’s on Friday which will determine the schedule for Saturday.
Hospitality/Refreshments: Robyn Carroll – A goodie bag will be given to each student before we leave for Youngstown (granola bar & juice box). Small snacks will be available for the ride home. However, you might want to send $$ with your kids for snacks while in the stadium.
Publicity: Sue Thiele – A photo of the section leaders was in last week’s Milford Advertiser. Sue also submitted a photo to the new GetPublished! on-line publication. You can view it by going to www.Cincinnati.com Type in keyword “GetPublished!”, click on “local”, click on “Milford” and scroll through the photos until you see the photo of the Sousaphone Section. Sue thinks they will pick a few of the submitted photos to print in the Enquirer’s new “Hometown” section that is printed once or twice a week.
Old Business/Unfinished Business: Tag Day – October 21 conflicts with possible Mason contest. It’s likely to be moved to November 4th with an exhibition show to follow in the next week – which would be great practice before Indy! Tall Stacks next week – volunteers are still needed with proceeds to go to band program (not a fair share activity). Miami Glen dance is now November 4th (details to follow) 50% profits made will be donated to the band. Please consider attending the dance to show your support for the Band and Miami Glen.
New Business: None heard.
Next Meeting is October 24
