Special Levy Presentation – Mr. Frye, Superintendent

Mr. Frye,  presented the 5 year operating levy proposal.   This is a five year forcast of the administrative plan to proceed within a 5 year budget.  Thorough presentation with questions and comments from several band booster parents regarding the impact this levy would have on the band program.

September MINUTES: Corrections or additions?  Minutes accepted as posted.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Patty    - fruit sale profit $195 ;  winter show purchased food fixins, that is what the expenses are there.  Tarp is being paid for by board of education.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Jill Waeber – due to the presentation by the Mr. Frye, we will try to make this meeting as quick as we can due to the time.

DIRECTORS’ REPORTS:

Mr. Brown:

Mr. Schrameck:   Brian planned on being here,  but could not make it.  Mrs. Towner wanted to mention the new composite from Keiser is here, and they do a great job and are super to work with.

-They are planning chaperones for concerts, so we don’t deal with this the day of the concerts. Will need a couple of chaperones for graduation, also.

-Jr. high contest on the 19th or 20th

-Elementary- we finally put together numbers, 134 6th grade band members.  We’ll lose several over the years, but this is a great number of 6th grade students.  Our biggest concern w/ Mr. fry is the 6th grade band program.  If we lose the band program for just one year, it will affect the program for the next 6th years!  We could never make up for the years of destruction due to a cut in this program.

-Mr. Frye has been open to discussion with the directors, and this is appreciated.  Mr. Frye said if the board has to choose, they will cut our competitions, not the parades or half time performances, since these are what the community sees and appreciates.

-Questions have been raised about the band sharing gate receipts for games, maybe we should approach the athletic director as to whether we can get some of the money from the gate.  Our board of ed supports the band very well, and we can’t complain. Not many schools are sending bands to the away games these days, it costs us about 600 to an away game.

-Marching band show committee -  Can Mr. brown pin down a date for this marching band show Milford wants to host next fall?  Mr. Schrameck will get this.

-Big fundraiser to purchase equipment even if the levy passes.

-Band camp date on the web

-Fyi – sympathy card to Matt Neidermeir whose father died in September, college fund.  Motion moved to send $75, and seconded.

-Three person committee needed to select the scholorship recipients.  Patty, Wendy and Regina and Christine Presley have volunteered.

-Serving food for the senior award banquet, we need someone to run the food, or at least help with it, so the senior parents will be able to enjoy their seniors night!

-Fair shair fundraisrers need to be done by the 8th graders, if mr s could get flyer with info they need, it would be appreciated.

-We have to be sure at the guard show we are not going to be charged extra custodian fees – extra staff fees.

Please attend the drumline and support the drumline.

-The band boosters needs to develop a plan to demonstrate our support for the levy.  At the very least we should call the band parents for support.  Mr. Fry wants our support from the 6th through the 12th grade from band parents.  So, we should come up with the information needed to help get this support.  Also, we need to educate the board as far as what the band boosters cover in our program.

-We need to be sure at the winterguard/drumline show that we are not going to be charged extra for custodian fees and extra staff fees.

-Please be sure to attend the drumline/ winterguard show on March 18th to support the drumline!  And, all volunteers will be greatly appreciated!
