September 27, 2005

CALL TO ORDER: 7:30 pm  -  Sign in sheet

AUGUST MINUTES: Corrections or additions.  Minutes accepted as posted.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

With gas expensive, we are paying for the trucks that are pulling trailers.

Senior expense was for yearbook ad.   Big expenditure, Croswell bill paid for both indy trips.  We are under budget on this expense.

Treasurer’s Report accepted.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:  The kids were awesome on Saturday.  I urge each parent to come to the contests and football games to support the kids.  It really means a lot to them.  I felt that the kids looked very professional in their new uniforms and show flags.  Thank you to everyone, for a job well done.  You are all such an awesome group, and I count it as a great privilege to be your president.  Bob Gustafson was very generous in lending Mr. Brown a video camera to tape the band last week.

Jill noted that we should keep our Kroger cards after our children graduate, because out of this we can use the money to pay for band fees for those who need it.

The subject was brought up that some girls are in inappropriate attire at the competition, wearing speghetti straps and sports bras.  Show shirt requirement has always been in the past.  It is decided this is worth mentioning to directors.

Also brought up is the changing procedures for the guard members. They are not required to wear shorts and tshirts under their uniform.  What is the appropriate attire for changing on the guard bus?

DIRECTORS’ REPORTS:

Mr. Brown:

Mr. Schrameck:

Ms. Towner:  Thanks for help, Saturday went well. Greatly appreciated.  3 selected for all state band, a real honor, normally kids pay for their own honor bands, costs $185.  Boosters have paid for this in the past.  Covers housing and fees.  Do we want to pay for this  expense?

1st Tues in November, rehearsal changed because kids will want to audition for district.  Rehearsals will be switched around to accommodate this.  Will email everyone with the final dates.

Mr brown needs someone to pick up paint.  He will have  a list and we need volunteer to pick it up at home depot.  Give mr. brown the name of volunteer.

Main priority to finish show.  Judges liked the design and show, initial comments were very positive.   We are where we need to be at this time.

Wayne markworth retired from cetnerville will come in to help the band as a clinician.  Very excited about this.

Winter concert on Monday in December.  Starts at 7:00.

Performance time for regionals will be coming any time, we don’t have it yet.  We will have to feed lunch and dinner, will work out itinerary.

The mason show is a marquis event.  This will have students coming to support the band.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

COLOR GUARD: Kim Niehaus:  Flag construction is still underway.  We are very busy trying to finish the rest of the 104 flags for the next competition.  Kudos to the guard parents and band parents who have spent many hours working on them!  Help is still needed and much appreciated on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6-9.

DRUMLINE:  Cathy Evans

Fall fundraiser completed.  65 students participated either through selling or cash contributions.  No firm number on what we made, should be in line with last year.

Prize drawings were given out. Thanks to all those who participated

DELEGATE AT LARGE: Teresa Essex – will vote in by laws changes and constitutions.  Needs to be updated to all corrections.  We will vote later to approve these changes.

Fruit Sale is coming up in November-all is on track so far for that.

SCRIPT, KROGERS, MEIJERS:  Kim & Joe Haas

Larosas potentional program – we could profit from this fundraiser.  Brought up that after prom committee just bought a bundle.  Is there enough market for two groups?   Jill says that would be a fair share program – no guarantee that we would sell (150) enough to make the mark needed to go with this.

There must be a specific need from the band above and beyond our fundraiser to put together a new general fundraiser for the band.    The boosters last year voted for this new fundraiser by law last year.

Bob Slade made new rack.  The marchers are squeezed on 6 racks, but we now have 1 other  for when we need them.  Will be washing uniforms after Friday nights game.  Need about 3-4 loads per person.  They have not been washed previously, but they should be fine.  Kathy will do a test run on one before.

CHAPERONES:  Ramona Fisch, Wendy Lambing  -  thank everyone for their help on Saturday.  Good volunteers, every slot filled.  Encourage new members to join chaperones.   Is there a required number for chaperones per kids…. In our chaparone book.  Asking chaprones to pay up before we go.  Will submit bill.

EQUIPMENT:  Steve Howes
Received a new compliment from new drumline instructor for all the help we had to load up Saturday.  We have plenty of room.  Small issues popping up with material lights not working and blowing fuses.  Will be checked out.  Problems with pit equipment marimbas that are very old and starting to show age, spending money on wheels and brackets to hold things together.  At some point we can get some money to buy new equipment.

CONTEST FOOD:  Cathy Baker, Jackie Tompkins, Marla Hejma – donated leftover chicken to free store.  Maybe 1 ½ pieces in the future per student.    Gatoraid huge hit  served 460 drinks, will that be typical?    Will food for Lebanon include chaperones?  Depends on itinerary.

NEW BUSINESS

The Constitution By-law changes were passed out and members are requested to read them.  We found inconsistencies in the changes we made in the Spring of 2005. The changes have been noted and will be voted upon next meeting.  We must supply the Milford School Board with fundraiser information by law and a copy of our Band Boosters Constitution.

Inventory of Band Uniforms and Jarvis Trailers need to be given to the Milford School Board.

Brian Brown would like to host an Independent Marching Band Show in the Fall of 2006.

We probably need about 100 volunteers to help.  A meeting will take place this Winter to discuss.

ADJOURN:  Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm
